Tribeca: Part 8

Ebon's blade had impaled the old hag, yet this witch was not dead. She laughed unnaturally as she hung, pinned to a tree. The blade Ebon had stabbed her with deteriorated before his eyes as the witch pulled herself off of the tree trunk. More laughter from behind Ebon startled him further as the first witch he had defeated broke off the branch he had launched through her skull. She too was now coming for him. Ebon quickly sat cross-legged on the forest floor and made several circular hand gestures while muttering an incantation. A red sphere engulfed him as he sat on the forest floor with his eyes closed. The witches charged the sphere but screamed in agony as they fell back from it, their flesh burning. Ebon had bought himself some time. He had enacted the protection charm, a powerful magic that surrounds its wielder and burns any that try and pass its borders. The spell often left the user drained and depleted of mysticism after it wears off. Ebon would be no different; being a novice in mystic arts still, he knew that he could not hold this enchantment forever or even for much longer. He had to come up with an escape. As he waited more witches came forth from the forest, varying in height and size, some old and haggard others young and haggard, none beautiful, all blood thirsty.

Ebon had disturbed their sacred sacrifice. They were in the middle of offering a young boy to the King in the Cliffs. The boy had been tied to a banquet table and surrounded with foods and raw meats. They had left two younger wiccas to stand guard over the boy. Ebon spied this as he was making his way towards the sea. He was tired, exhausted from the forests, as the men and creatures within it had drained him, challenging his every step. The boy was screaming and crying as Ebon passed. Without thinking he rushed the two Wiccas. The young witches were not prepared for him as he cut one in half and beheaded the other. He quickly untied the boy and told him to run. The ground trembled beneath them from the direction of the Cliffs, the King was coming. The boy, blinded by tears and fear, ran towards the cliffs and Ebon prepared to chase after him but was stopped by Wake's warning. The King of the Cliffs was not his fight, and he was in no condition to face him. He let the boy go. A moment later he keeled over in pain, clutching his side. As he looked at his fresh wound, he saw that a chunk of his flesh had been torn away. He turned to see a legion of witches and wiccas glaring at him angrily.

"You fool!" the witches spoke as one. "You have ruined the sacrifice, the King will need another! Another!"

A particularly decrepit woman, taller than the rest stood apart from the crowd of witches, outstretching her arm and pointing towards Ebon, her fingertips glowed black.

Ebon made himself ready to move but fell back over, whatever had struck him was now poisoning him. The trembling of the ground grew more violent and became more frequent. The witches moved in on him but before they could grab him Ebon threw down two small pebbles onto the ground around him. They exploded with a green mist. The mist itself was poisonous to any that inhaled it. Ebon ran through the mist, breathing it, but escaping his captors.

Trying to put some distance between he and the witches Ebon collapsed in a high tree top. The trembling of the ground had stopped. He heard a high pitch scream, it was the boy! Alarmed, Ebon looked into the direction that he had heard the voice, but the screaming stopped. He saw nothing but trees and a trail leading up to the cliffs. The trembling returned briefly but was stopped as he then heard moaning and lamenting from the witches; They had either been found by or confronted the King. Ebon could hear their inaudible begging pleas and weeping to the King. A deep evil voice was then heard, Ebon knew exactly whom it belonged to. The King was speaking, and he could be heard clearly.

"Find him, bring him to me, alive or dead." The King calmly commanded. It was then that Ebon ran, with the witches in hot pursuit.

Ebon could see no escape from his plight. His protection charm was wearing off, holes in the red sphere were forming then growing wider. Ebon was close to unconsciousness. There would be no escape. The wound in his side still bled heavily, his blood began to turn black as it flowed from him. The poison of the witches as well as the inhalation of his own green mist was overcoming him. Falling backwards onto the forest floor, Ebon could not hold his charm any longer. The night engulfed him as the witches rushed to claim their prize.

DaChase pummeled Wake's chained form. He did not care that Wake had been relieved of his weaponry and tied to a tree much like the one DaChase had been strapped to nights before. DaChase delighted in causing Wake pain. Wake would not scream.

"You thought you could escape me?" DaChase asked between the body blows he was delivering, ripping Wake's flesh. Simona was in the corner of the tent that had been erected around the tree Wake was tied to, laughing.

"You should have killed me when you had the chance! I will be collecting the boy shortly as well and you will be made an example of so that he knows not to betray me again!"

DaChase leaned in closer to Wake's left ear, speaking softly.

"Just know that I WILL have him! I will take great pleasure from him night after night as I make him do my bidding. He will scream my name as I show him the true measure of a man!"

Wake grunted and strained against his binding to no avail. DaChase laughed as he backed away from Wake. He twice slapped Wake hard in the face with his claws, raking long gashes across Wake's cheeks. DaChase then took a handful of rubbing salts and mashed them into Wake's wounds; finally he screamed. DaChase then spit in Wake's face.

"If only you had eyes so that I could rip them out!" He and Simona bellowed in laughter as they left the tent. DaChase called for his guardsmen.

"Prepare to return to the castle. Exercise extreme caution when moving this one, beat or maim him if you must, his well being is now inconsequential. Just do try and leave him breathing, even if barely."

With that Dachase and Simona were off on their way back to his castle. They laughed even harder as they listened to Wake's continued torture at the hands of DaChase's men.

Tribeca: Part 7

The noon time rays of Tribeca's red sun could not penetrate the waters of Dapers Reef. The deeply blue-orange waters were still as death, no wind blew on this day. The seas of Tribeca were treacherous and as unpredictable as flame; only sanctioned ships were allowed to go out on the waters. That included everything from fishing boats to warships. Only a certain fish were allowed to be brought back to land. People feared the creatures of the sea, creatures that lived in the deep dark, not even the shallowest of waters were brightened by the sun. The sea creatures, fish and other things, were said to be at war with those on land and legends told of them rising from the depths to overthrow 'air-breathers'. Land dwellers were wary to eat of the offerings of the seas for fear of poisoning from those that lived in the water.

None of this mattered to Wake as he loaded the mid size cruiser that he had bought for he and Ebon's journey. The cruiser was a sleek contraption built for speed. It had the option of oars and sails and a small cabin below its top deck. A day had passed since Wake sent Ebon into the Steridian Forest. He thought worriedly of Ebon's safety. He wasn't ready. Wake knew it when he sent him in, but Wake also knew that Ebon would have to adapt and survive and get through the forests. The lesson of survival would far better prepare him than anything Wake could teach him. As long as he stayed away from the Azurine Cliffs. The only thing awaiting Ebon there was death. Wake thought back on his last words to Ebon, perhaps he was too harsh, too hard on Ebon. He should have told him how he felt towards him...no...those thoughts would only be a distraction Ebon didn't need. If He hadn't made it to the sea by the end of the third day Wake would go looking for him. His feelings for the youth were genuine and he had come to love Ebon.

The sound of bells in the far distance caught in Wake's ears. Bells? Bells were used only on royal steeds. DaChase's men were approaching. Wake quickly said an incantation to make the boat only seen by himself and Ebon and dashed into the under brush of trees along the beach. He waited silently in the cool shadows for the approaching horses. The thudding of hooves got louder and louder as DaChase's guard thundered down the beach. Wake counted seven men in total from the vibrations they made along the sandy earth. The smell of their sweat combined with that of the horses made for a foul odor upon the fresh sea air. They stopped right in front of where Wake's ship was docked. it was the only place a ship could dock on the dangerous reef. Dismounting their steeds the men spread about the beach and began to set up camp.

Wake knew that he had to act. He could not afford to have the men waiting around when Ebon emerged from the forest. Two of the men were relieving themselves right next to him as he prepared to strike. Quickly and soundlessly Wake lept into the air, twisting one of the men's heads backwards. The second moved to act but Wake sliced off the man's still urinating penis, caught it and shoved it down the guardsman's throat as he instinctively began to scream. Wake then gouged the man's eyes into his brain, killing him. He quickly drug the two bodies into the under brush before the others saw them. Three other men along the water fell just as easily as Wake lodged three throwing spikes into the bases of their necks and throats. With inhuman speed Wake ran at the backs of the last two guardsmen to take them down before they were alerted by the sounds of their dead comrades hitting the water. Wake launched himself feet first at the back of one the guards, wrapping his legs around the guard's neck snapping it then swinging around in the same motion and kicking the man's face backwards as he fell into the sand. Wake turned to face his final opponent but had his legs swept from under him by crimson strands. Wake fell to the beach but was instantly back on his feet, turned to face the last guard. Wake's unseeing eyes did not register the guard's mystical transforming from man to woman, revealing himself to actually be Simona.

Simona opened her mouth and spat fire at Wake which he managed to dodge, though singeing his feet. Running towards her, he launched a quick succession of hand signs. Simona dodged Wake as he ran by, her hair, coming to life, grabbed his neck as he passed, interrupting his enchantment. Simona snapped him backwards flinging him into nearby coral rocks. Before Wake could recover Simona was on him, clawing him with elongated nails. Wake grabbed Simona's neck and with his free hand brought a coral rock around to her head. He kept smashing the rock against her forehead until Simona fell motionless into the water, blood pouring from her crushed cranium. Wake exhaustedly moved away from her body but was grabbed by his legs and pulled backwards. Wake was lifted into the air and twisted around to come face to face with a dragoness. Simona had lost control for her abilities and started to take shape to her true form. Her tail was holding Wake aloft in the air as she swung her claws at him, tearing his flesh. Simona clapped his ears, deafening him and also causing him to lose his sound-based sight. Dropping him, Simona began to stomp Wake into unconsciousness. Once Wake was defeated Simona drug him back to the shore, retaking her human form. Waiting for her was DaChase and a full battalion of his men.

Meanwhile, Ebon ran. Chasing him were a pair of witches flying through the trees as Ebon swung and jumped from branch to branch. Ebon grabbed one of the branches and held it back waiting for one of the witches to come within range. One of the screaming women drew close as he released it, flinging the branch back upon her. A loud 'crack' was heard as Ebon looked back to see the witch impaled on the branch through her face. Unsheathing his sword that he had taken from the wild men, Ebon ran towards the other witch as she came towards him as well.

Tribeca: Part 6

The beauty of the lands of Tribeca were illuminated by the bright light of the full moon that hovered patiently over it. It was as if the moon were stalling time, trying to hold off the violence that the new day would bring. DaChase stood silently on his daughter's balcony. Watching over his lands, peering even further off into the direction of the Steridian Forests and the Azurine cliffs beyond them; out into the distant sea. Alot had transpired in the night before, scarring his body with injuries, but he was unconcerned about his wounds, grateful for them even; because now, with the help of his surgeons he had improved upon himself. He looked down at his taloned hands, gratings his fingers along the railing of Feria's balcony, sparks flew from the bar as metal hands on metal railing vied for dominance. DaChase's new eye had been enchanted by his warlock, so that it could see a thousand times normal sight. What would look miles and miles away to the human eye DaChase saw so closely he felt as if he could touch it. His new eye also allowed him to see the inner workings of living bodies, so he could tell when he was being lied to or about to be attacked. He would have his revenge on Wake. He cursed himself for ever being foolish enough to trust the outsider.

Wake had appeared one day from out of the Steridian Forest, battered and blinded but still extremely dangerous. He had killed a squadron of DaChase's men who had confronted him and tried to take him into custody. It was not until promises of wealth and peace from battles that Wake finally calmed enough for DaChase to interrogate him thoroughly. He learned that Wake was a wandering mystic who was on his way to offer his services to Prince Koa but had been waylayed by the Steridian forest and the King of the Azurine cliffs. DaChase offered Wake a position with him instead, telling him that Koa's bastard son was in his charge and that he needed a trainer, of both mysticism and the stealth arts. Wake agreed to take the position. A bit too quickly DaChase now thought.

He turned from the balcony and re-entered Feria's room, looking around it and seeing images of his daughter on her bed and at her vanity, brushing her hair or writing letters. He shook the visions away, they were replaced by a woman entering into Feria's bed chamber escorted by two of his guards; she was stunning in beauty with long crimson hair and amber skin, dressed in rags but still holding herself with great pride.
"Ah, Simona. You have made it. Thank you for coming. I need your help. My daughter is missing and I need for you to locate some traitors for me." The woman smiled an evil grin as she bent over in service.

"As you wish my lord." Simona was the see-er that DaChase had ordered. Her appearance was deceiving, she took on the form of a young seductress but nobody had ever seen her true appearance, she was rumored to be hundreds of years old, a daughter of demons and dragons forced into DaChase's servitude after he had discovered her soul, cut it from her and hid it away. She made herself appear young and beautiful to DaChase so that he would not torture and kill her, instead he took a liking to Simona and made her do his biddings with her gifts of foresight and tracking...among other things.

DaChase grew excited in his loins watching the woman but pushed aside such thoughts.
"I need for you to locate Wake and tell me his plans. He will not escape my vengeance. Also, look out for Ebon, he should be with Wake but one can never be too cautious. After you find them I will need you to tell me the whereabouts of my daughter Feria, she disappeared with no trace or notice today. I must know where she is. "
Simona smiled to herself. Her eyes glazed over, rolling into the back of her head until only the whites were visible, they began to glow a yellow-green color.
"Wake prepares to leave these lands as we speak. He gathers supplies as if he were going on a trip...he is near a harbor...."
"Dapers Reef!" DaChase exclaimed. He looked to his guards.
"Ready the men. I want them waiting for Wake when he makes his move." The guards nodded and hurriedly left the room. Simona drew back upright, her breasts fell out from the rags. DaChase's mouth watered. She continued.
"...the boy Ebon is in the midst of great danger. He wanders Steridian Forest. He is armed but the bands of wild men he has encountered are only small threats. There are more powerful enemies to be met."
DaChase drew silent. Ebon was not to be harmed. His plan must come to be and Ebon was the key piece. Wake was a fool to send him into Steridian alone. He wasn't ready. He turned back to the balcony.
'Well, warlock, you heard her. Ebon is alone in the Steridian Forests. I will not have him harmed..too badly. Fetch him for me. Kill any who threaten him."
A shadow that had gone unnoticed by DaChase's men but not Simona appeared in the doorway of the balcony. A broad cloaked figure bowed to Da Chase then leaped over the railing, vanishing into the dark night's silence, appearing to become one with the moon's rays. Simona then began to convulse and shake and scream....DaChase turned back to her and watched her curiously as she tore off her rags and flung herself onto Feria's bed in the center of the room where she continued to flail.

"Feria is lost. Only she can reveal her true whereabouts...they have her." Simona exhaled, her voice not her own. DaChase continued to watch the woman, his body responding to the nude flesh of her breasts, the inviting curves of her thighs. He approached the bed. He had an angered look but with a thought it passed...After a few more moments Simona lay still. DaChase disrobed and climbed on top of her, aligning his now fully awoke erection with her wet wildness. Simona did not acknowledge him nor did she fight him, still lost in her own visions. Her eyes still glowed their greenish hue. DaChase rammed himself into her, causing her to gasp.
"If Feria is lost...then we must make another."

Tribeca: Part 5

The forest of Steridian was not a place any sane man or woman would go. It was a place where life was worthless. Anyone who entered its thick underbrush knew with all certainty that they would not leave unscathed if even at all. It was a wood of wildmen. Men who roamed the forest and its borders killing and pillaging nearby residents of Tribeca. Raping man, woman and child, it mattered not to them. They were outcasts, people who DaChase and the Counts before him deemed unfit for civilized society, so they were cast out into the wilderness to fend for themselves usually from childhood.

None of this mattered to Ebon. He sat content on a pile of bodies cleaning his newly acquired weapons. Around him nude bodies of men lay sprawled across the forest floor. Only moments before Ebon had dropped into an orgy of flesh as this roving group of men and women were fighting amongst themselves over a freshly killed boar. Ebon sat and watched from his perch in the trees over the crazed people patiently waiting. The fighting turned from violence to groping as men started grappling and wrestling body after body to the ground. Excited men and women started intermingling, biting and tearing at each other in ecstatic delight. Ebon's stomach growled slightly as he had not eaten in days. Silently dropping into the middle of the pile of human flesh Ebon grabbed pieces of the boar to eat. It was then that he was noticed. He cursed himself for being careless as he was quickly surrounded by men in crazed aroused states. Throbbing erections greeted him as well as excited women who pawed at him. Finally the mob moved for him. Ebon danced through the men and women as they reached and clawed for him, starving for his dark skin to pull him into their orgasmic pit and then tear him limb from limb. None touched him as he twirled away from and ducked their advances.

In frustration the men picked up their weapons and began to hack and slash at Ebon, who still dodged every blow, never retaliating or swinging back in response. Blood and body parts flew everywhere as the men and women started hitting and attacking themselves, falling in unfulfilled lust and anger until the last man stood, bleeding heavily from several wounds to his torso and head. Ebon sat beside the boar and grabbing a knife from a fallen wildman began carving what he needed from it. The last man fell dead behind him. As Ebon cleaned the knife he checked off his list finding food and weapons and began to prepare for what would come next in these woods.

Tribeca: Part 4

"What do you mean my daughter is gone!?!" erupted an overwhelmingly angered Count DaChase.
"Sire..." started the squat servant, a family man drafted to hand serve the Count, doubled over to the floor before DaChase's self-ordered throne; where he sat being attended to by his doctor's. "The chamber maids sent for her as requested but found no trace of her. They found only an empty room. Her balcony doors were flung open and the furniture soiled and turned over."
DaChase showed a mild hesitance and annoyance to his daughter's disappearance. Coldness and bitterness overtook him. He finally let loose of the anger that had been building inside him. Standing from his throne, he pushed the doctor's attending to him away and his servant got a full view of DaChase. Where his right eye once was now had in place a golden ball with gold running along the lines of the scar that was left when Wake cut up DaChase's face. DaChase now had an unblinking, shining golden eye with what could be mistaken for golden roots springing forth from it. The servant was in awe and horror at the same time as he stared at his Count. DaChase moved like air to the servant and ripped out both his windpipe and genitals; showing them to him as the servant fell dead. The Count had also had his hands augmented into golden razor tipped claws. Dropping the servant's parts on the floor and flinging dripping blood across the throne room floor, DaChase admired his new power...looking to the doctors who smiled in approval he ordered them to clean the mess and sat back down on his throne.
"Bring me the See-er and the old Warlock. I need to know the where about of my attackers...and now my daughter."

Ebon exploded out of the forest trying desperately to keep up with Wake's pace and stopped short at what he saw awaiting him. He had been prepped and trained for this since childhood. Memories of blood, sweat, and pain...ever hurting, excruciating, crippling pain experienced during his training all came flooding back to him at once. Ebon remembered Wake talking to him about this moment as he prepared Ebon during his lessons. That this is what was waiting for him at the end. Not the assassination of the Prince, not ruling a kingdom, but this; the test of survival. Ebon looked at Wake now standing before him. Wake was as stoic as ever as he faced Ebon. He said nothing as Ebon approached him. Ebon's body tensed, his senses heightened, ready to act at any movement. Behind Wake awaited the Steridian Forest and further yet behind them, the Azurine Cliffs. Nobody from Tribeca ever dared to travel to either. Those who did were found in pieces around the borders of the land. Body parts hanging from branches or nailed to trees or bloodying the drinking water. It was rumored that crazed bands of men roamed these forests and cliffs located at the edge of the land. Murderers, rapists, and do-ers of any other imaginable action one can take offense to all lived in the forests and cliffs. It was also believed that there was something else in there, otherworldly beasts and grotesque magic-women that none would touch and feared to look at. The kind that could kill you with their bare hands or the wicked mysticism at their command. Then there was the lonely king who lived on the cliffs overlooking the Sea. This king though was not a man of natural forbearance. This King commanded no Army nor had need for one. He could best most armies alone. None survived that could describe what the King looked like. None had lived after making his acquaintance...save one. He alone had bested the King in battle and escaped his clutches to survive and live on. He did not come away unscathed though. He had lost the use of his eyes...
"Wake?" Ebon asked, not taking his eyes off the borders to these unfriendly lands they were now in all while approaching his teacher.
"Why are we here? You told me that you would take me to my mother. I refuse to believe she is somewhere in these lands."
"No. She isn't. But I cannot deliver you to her or tell you of her whereabouts until you finish your training. You will need it in order to survive the journey to find her."
Ebon felt a feeling of hopelessness and frustration overtake him. First DaChase and now Wake? Was everybody going to 'require' something from him in order for him to learn what was his right to know in the first place? The truth of his parentage?.
"I cannot believe this! You also ask of me in selfishness to do something for you? YOU!? Of all people!? How will I ever find my mother or know her if I die during this training?"
"Then do not die. I ask nothing of you. This is something you must do. I have taught you all that I can. The rest is up to you. All you have to do is survive...for 3 days. That's as long as it will take you to travel from the forests to the cliffs. After that, the sea will await you. It will be there that I will be also be waiting for you and we will set sail to your mother's lands. You must do this. You have committed to do this and trained for it since you were a child. Finish it! Trust nothing and no soul inside these lands. Move with haste and exercise extreme caution."
As Wake instructed him, Ebon fought back his frustrations and regained his focus. He did not fear this place and knew he could handle anything or any adversary that he would come across. His frustrations were more because of his impatience. He had waited so long to know of his mother and to have this information so closely within grasp and snatched away twice now caused anger to grow within him. Still he listened intently to Wake's instructions.
"Trust your training and do not shy from exploring your mystic abilities. You will need them. I will gather everything we need for our journey while you complete this task. If you do not complete it and die...I will mourn you and avenge you. I will also find your mother and tell her of you. So that she may know of how you lived and how you died. But don't die. It will anger me to no end to know that I have waited in vain. I leave you no weapons or supplies. Find them on your own...and you will have plenty of opportunity to do so. Sleep light or risk not waking. Stay clear of the Castle on the cliffs. He lives there and he is not your battle. Also...traveling this path eliminates any chance of being followed. DaChase has no man in his army willing to travel Steridian nor Azurine. Now go."
Without word nor Goodbye, Ebon leaped forth into the trees of Sheridian. No man, beast, witch, or magic would keep him from his quest. He welcomed this challenge. Completing it would bring him one step closer to his mother.

Tribeca: Part 3

"Feria" a voice called out from the blinding whiteness. Feria stirred. She blinked her eyes repeatedly trying to focus them. She realized that wherever she was, it was a room or place of nothingness. All white is what she saw for as far as she could see. Distance and depth perception failed her. For all she knew she was floating on air.
Rubbing her head, Feria felt the exact spot that she was hit. It did not hurt but there was something now there. She fingered the formation now embedded into her skull but could not make out what it was. She tried pulling on it but it did not budge. Feria felt around to the back of her head and found that there was the same formation on the back of her head as well. It was as if whatever hit her went straight through. Feria's long beautiful hair hid the mark on the back of her head, however, panic gripped her. Feria got to her feet or what she believed to be a standing position, and looked around again. Still nothingness greeted her.
"Fear not, child of DaChase. No harm will come to you here." Feria tried to follow the voice but could not. She felt a pulsating on her head and realized that the voice she was hearing was coming from the object, but talking to her from within.
"Where am I?" Feria questioned. "Am I dead?"
"You are neither here nor there, alive or dead. You are where you are." Feria slumped back down to what she believed to be the ground...being as she was now in a sitting position.
"Why was I brought here? I have to get home. My father has been wounded and we have traitors to hunt down." Feria sounded defiant and put on a brave front. But there was still much to question of the events that had recently transpired. She still did not fully believe the accounts of her father but his injuries were undeniable. Attacking or harming royalty met with severe and terminal consequences.
"Worry not about your father. For he is being well attended to. More important matters must be discussed, starting with why you were chosen to be the Avatar of the Sky." Feria's jaw dropped and eyes opened wider. Her body froze. This was something that once came to her in dreams but not since childhood. She felt her body begin moving beyond her control. The being that possessed her was standing her upright, no; she felt free of gravity as if she were flying...or hovering. Feria's hair flowed and rose as if each strand were being pulled upwards by attached puppet strings.
"Come. We haven't much time." And with that there was a brilliant flash and the whiteness faded away to reveal Feria's bed quarters and her balcony door still open, wind and rain blowing in and soiling the expensive rugs and furniture just within the entrance to the balcony. Feria however was nowhere in sight.

Wake moved as if he could sense exactly where it was he was going. Ebon guessed that Wake did know infact where he was going and how to get there. They were moving at a breakneck speed. Jumping through trees and running along the underbrush. Neither made a sound as they moved. The years of stealth training had paid off. Wake had still not told Ebon who his mother was nor her whereabouts. He did tell Ebon that before he divulged that information to him that there was a final training that he must complete; one that he may not survive but in order to complete the journey lay before him, he must. It was to that training site that they were headed now.
They had not much time as DaChase's forces would soon be after them in full battalion; but Wake was adamant in Ebon completing this task. Wanting to find his mother and learn his heritage as well as agreeing to complete the task out of respect and love for Wake, Ebon prepared himself for the unimaginable. Wake had disappeared into the darkness of the forest. Ebon followed closely behind.
